A Winchester Model 1886 rifle, serial 155142, made in 1917 and chambered in 33 WCF with a 24-inch barrel. It was a special order gun, and the factory features are still in place: a non-checkered pistol grip stock, takedown construction and a half magazine. The supplier rates it excellent, with more than 90 percent of the original blue on the metal and very fine wood, and calls it a very nice example of the later 1886 configuration.
The three special-order features are what collectors look for on a late 1886: the pistol grip stock changes the handling from the straight-grip standard, the takedown lets the rifle split for a case, and the half magazine shortens the tube under the barrel. With 90-plus percent blue on a 1917 gun, this one has been looked after. It is listed in our handgun category but is a full-length rifle; under federal rules a dealer can transfer a rifle to a buyer who is 18, though the Illinois FOID requirement still applies.
