WWI U.S. Model 1917 Jungle Bolo

This is a U.S. Model 1917 bolo from the First World War, cataloged under swords and knives as SKU MEW2387 and sold in used condition. One side of the blade is marked U.S. MOD 1917; the opposite side carries the maker stamp PLUMB PHIL. 1918, placing its manufacture with Plumb in that year. It comes with its metal scabbard, which is stamped U.S. L.F&C-1918, a separate contractor mark from the same year.

The Model 1917 bolo was issued in WWI as a brush-clearing tool for gun crews setting up their positions, which accounts for the broad chopping blade. For an Illinois collector of US military edged tools, a 1918-dated Plumb blade paired with a dated metal scabbard is a complete, honest example of the type. It is a used antique; condition is as pictured, and the stamps listed above are the identifying marks to compare against reference examples before you buy.
