Browning's BL-22 Grade II in maple is a deluxe lever-action rimfire rifle chambered in .22 LR with a 20-inch barrel. Sights are a bead front and an adjustable rear, the metal carries an engraved, high-polish blue finish and the stock and forend are checkered Grade II maple. The supplier lists it as new, SKU NGZ7073.

A .22 LR is not a deer cartridge under Illinois rules, which limit firearm deer season to shotguns with slugs, muzzleloaders, qualifying handguns and single-shot centerfire rifles of .30 caliber or larger. This BL-22 is a plinking and training rifle, and the maple and engraving make it one to hand down. Under federal rules a dealer can sell a rifle to a buyer who is 18, and an Illinois shooter under 21 can hold a FOID card with an eligible parent or guardian as sponsor, so this is a realistic first rifle for a young shooter in the family.
