The Crusader Rifle from Rare Breed Triggers delivers a hardened AR-platform receiver set with the dimensional consistency demanded by professional armorers and precision shooters. Built for sustained fire without compromising headspace or lockup, this isn’t a display piece—it’s a working firearm core.
What you get
- Forged 7075-T6 aluminum upper and lower receiver set
- Type III hardcoat anodized finish (MIL-A-8625F compliant)
- Tension screw-adjusted upper-to-lower fitment
- Flared magwell with chamfered edges
- Ambidextrous bolt catch and release
- Indexing marks for timed barrel installation
- Rare Breed Triggers proprietary fire control group pocket dimensions
Build and finish
The Crusader’s receivers start with forgings that exceed MIL-SPEC material requirements. CNC machining brings critical surfaces like the bolt raceway and barrel extension seat to within 0.0005″ tolerance, while the fire control pocket maintains Rare Breed’s exacting specifications for trigger group compatibility. Unlike many aftermarket receivers, these components undergo magnetic particle inspection before finishing.
Anodizing follows military-grade Type III specifications with a matte black finish that measures 0.002″ thick. The tension screw system eliminates receiver wobble without shims—a feature normally found only on custom competition rifles. All threaded holes are cut to SAE specifications rather than the looser commercial standards common in the industry.
Compatible platforms
- AR-15 pattern rifles (requires standard LPK)
- Accepts all Mil-Spec bolt carrier groups
- Designed for Rare Breed FRT-15 trigger groups (standard triggers require modification)
- Works with DPMS-pattern .308 uppers when paired with appropriate adapter kit
Installation notes
This receiver set requires standard AR-15 armorer’s tools for assembly. The fire control pocket will not accept unmodified Mil-Spec triggers due to Rare Breed’s proprietary dimensions—either use their FRT-15 system or expect to hand-fit components. Upper and lower align within 0.003″ when properly tensioned.
Illinois Gun Shop stocks the Crusader Rifle alongside the jigs, pins, and specialized tools needed to build it out properly. Whether you’re assembling a dedicated competition upper or need a receiver that won’t stretch under sustained fire, this set represents one of the few production alternatives to custom-machined receivers at twice the price.
